I took some advice and decided to do a study on deer anatomy to help establish a more realistic Andalite. Originally, I based the Andalite anatomy on horses, but this one looks a lot more delicate. What do you think?

I like the body a lot. I don’t think that it is very clear if the blade is part of the animal or attached to it. Also, thinking in evolution terms, how does he eat? why does an animal that is clearly an animal bear stalked eyes?
Hmm, I could adjust the tail blade so it looks more attached. The other design features aren’t my doing, but part of the series. The Andalites eat through their feet, by running on the grass. The stalk eyes are so they can see 360 degrees around them, as they were prey animals on their homeworld. They are aliens afterall
Why not emphasizing that they eat through their feet? As it is now, their hooves look regular, what are the mechanisms that they use to eat through their feet? Could you include that in your design, even if subtly?
Animals that need to see 360 usually have large eyes on the sides of their heads (think hens but with larger eyes). Stalked eyes usually belong to invertebrates, because how would you support eyes with nerves and muscle, and also keep them protected?
I am not saying that your alien should look human, these are things that I always consider when I see a creature, how believable it is based on what we know about biology? what mechanisms are in play? Maybe I am a nerd… oh, wait! I *am* a nerd!
Not sure how I could adjust the feet in a manner you could tell that they ate through them, unless the hooves were viewed from the underside. As far as the anatomy goes for the stalk eyes, you have to talk to KA Applegate
I’m just basing the main anatomy off of the previous concepts.
Do you have any sketches using horse anatomy? It would be interesting to do a comparison.
I’m only suggesting this because my drawing skills are laughable. Whatever you do, just stick with it!
AniJen21- All of my previous Andalite drawings are based off of horse anatomy, as that is how I have drawn them up until this sketch. I’m thinking of doing more sketches based off of deer anatomy as I don’t have much practice with it.
